Accessible Parking
ADA accessible parking placard usage is restricted to the placard holder, or to the individual transporting (and only during the time they are transporting) the placard holder. ADA placards must be displayed on your license plate, on your dashboard, or on your rearview mirror.
Register Your ADA Placard
Faculty, staff and students who use an ADA placard must register their placard with the Office of Parking and Transportation.
Events
ADA parking is available for special events throughout the University. We strive to make your campus parking experience a positive one. In order to ensure access to ADA parking, we recommend arriving at the venue as early as possible.
Limited Parking
In many areas of campus Illinois State University exceeds the minimum required amount of ADA spaces per parking lot, but ADA spaces are still limited. Once the designated spaces in any given area are full, ADA placard holders will be directed to the next available parking area. Please follow instructions.
Policies
ADA placards do not grant unrestricted parking privileges. Parking on sidewalks, double parking, and parking in access aisles is strictly prohibited.
ADA placards are not transferrable. The authorized placard holder must be present and must enter or exit the vehicle at the time the placard is being used. (625 ILCS 5/11 – 1301.3(a-1)) If you drop off the authorized placard holder, you as the non-disabled driver are not entitled to ADA parking privileges. If you choose to drop off the placard holder you will be asked to park remotely to free up spaces for ADA drivers.
ADA Placard Misuse Disclaimer
ADA Placard Misuse Disclaimer: Misuse of an ADA accessible parking placard will result in a University fine. Individuals who allow their ADA placard to be misused may be reported to the Illinois Secretary of State’s office which could result in the revocation of the ADA parking placard. ADA spaces on campus are strictly enforced. The striped areas adjacent to the space are part of the accessible space. No vehicle staging is allowed in ADA spaces unless an ADA placard is displayed. Maximum monetary penalty amounts for violations are determined by the Illinois Secretary of State’s office.
